STREET ART: Edgar Mueller and other amazing artists

WHEN it comes to 3D street art, there is no greater artist with more street cred than Edgar Mueller. His artworks will convince you that you are about to fall into the depths of the earth and send that near-death tingly feeling shooting up your spine. It's quite eery at times tbh (to be honest).

But there are other street artists out there that try to follow in the master's footsteps. I have huge respect for those who can transform a dull, crumbling wall into something beautifully abstract or surreal. I've also always wondered how skillful artists view the world in general. I can't help but believe that their neurons are somehow wired differently, and that they perceive the world quite differently from us "normal" folk. Perhaps we need to examine their art carefully to better understand their worlds.

Unfortunately I can't say where the following street art originated from. I don't even know who the street artists behind these great works art (apart from one distinguishable Edgar Mueller masterpiece). Who art thou? I received the street art images below via one of those viral emails that's going around like the flu. All trace of their origin has been lost and the street artists themselves were too humble to add their signatures to their works. Yet this shouldn't prevent us from appreciating such amazing street art as this:

CHALK ART: 3D Street Art that will blow your mind!

THE great Edgar Mueller is a master street artist who uses chalk and the street as his canvas to create the most amazing 3D artworks. Working together with up to five assistants, Mueller paints all day long from sunrise to sunset.

Mueller says his inspiration comes from the British Pavement  Picasso Julian Beever, whose dramatic but more gentle 3D street images have been featured in the Daily Mail and several other British publications.

I wanted to play with positives and negatives to encourage people to think twice about everything they see, says Mueller. I like to think that later, when they return home, they might reflect more on what a frightening scenario it was and say, “wow, that was actually pretty scary" - Edgar Mueller.

It's really difficult to convince your brain that these artworks are on flat surfaces!

Crevasse

Mueller spent five days, working 12 hours a day, to create this 250 square meter image of the crevasse, which, when viewed from the correct angle, appears to be 3D. He then persuades passers-by to complete the illusion by pretending the gaping hole is real.

DIGITAL BLASPHEMY: Because everyone loves a cool desktop background

Digital Blasphemy is by far one of the best places on the web to find incredible PC wallpapers. Ryan Bliss has made a career of creating digital desktop backgrounds that are simply amazing. He is also quite the generous type and offers a few of his digital artworks for free. I have collected several DB wallpapers over the years and wanted to share my top 10 with anyone who appreciates such talent. You can read more about Digital Blasphemy here.

DIGITAL BLASPHEMY: Digital wallpapers to blow your socks off

IF you’re a fan of fantasy and an appreciator of digital art, then there is something you need to see. Digital images that allow you to immerse yourself and get lost in a fantasy place where all the worries in this world are forgotten (if only for a short while) are at your fingertips.

For those who don’t know: Over the course of the last 13 years Ryan Bliss, a self-taught 3D artist, has created the most incredible digital artwork.

His website www.digitalblasphemy.com, which began in 1997, offers original hi-res 3D-rendered desktop wallpapers, as well as links to some of the best computer art sites on the web.

Updated fairly regularly, Digital Blasphemy currently features over 650 images (including Widescreen, Dual-Monitor, and Triple-Monitor versions of some wallpapers), iPhone wallpapers, Pocket PC themes, and PSP wallpapers.

Digital Blasphemy members are able to download new wallpapers once created and have unrestricted access to the entire collection of 3D wallpapers, which can be downloaded after paying a membership fee ($99 for a life-time membership).

There is also a free gallery available for non-members which hosts 20 wallpapers that can be downloaded free of charge.

To date, over 180 mobile wallpapers have also been posted inside the Members Gallery, which have been pre-formatted to fit Blackberry and other mobile handsets.

Apart from 3D wallpapers, other products available are full-sized posters, T-shirts, and digital blasphemy mouse pads.

The desktop wallpapers are designed large and look their best at the maximum comfortable resolution on any PC. They are designed to look decent at 1024 x 768 resolution but can be scaled down to suit any desktop resolution setting.

Digital Blasphemy is by far the best digital art website that I have come across on the web. Unfortunately, the steep exchange rate between the US dollar and South African Rand prevents me from signing up as member.

However, if you’re in the same pickle jar as myself, yet would still like to keep up to date with new blissful creations at Digital Blasphemy, there is a Facebook group available where all are welcome!
