Don’t steal computers belonging to people who know how to use computers

VIDEO: Macbook thief gets defamed on YouTube

I CAUGHT wind of a fantastic story on 5fm while stuck in traffic this morning. Apparently some guy had his fancy new Macbook Air stolen from him. A while later, Steve (we’ll call him Steve) remembered that his Macbook had an auto backup function which automatically backed up his data to an online server. When Steve went online to have a little peruse through his data he skillfully managed to find the identity of the Macbook thief. Not only that, but Steve also came across a video the wannabe rapper had made using his newly acquired Macbook Air.

Steve reported the identity of the Macbook rapper to the police and uploaded the video to YouTube. It has now seen over a million views and is appropriately titled, “don’t steal computers belonging to people who know how to use computers.” The rapper has asked that the embarrassing video be pulled from YouTube and that he was sorry for stealing the Macbook. Steve and his new fan base told him to get bent.

“Stand as one” 2010 Fifa World Cup Song

STAND AS ONE: The unofficial Fifa 2010 World Cup song

THIS is the South African 2010 World Cup song everybody is talking about. FIFA and SAFA have not yet backed this track, so it’s creators have decided to take the melody to the people. The foot-tapping beat is called “Stand As One” and after I listened to it it gave me tingles down my spine. Any feedback and comments will be passed onto the creators. Otherwise just enjoy it!

Come on Dance! As we blow our Vuvuzela!!

MUSIC: Award-winning Playing For Change: Peace Through Music video

IF you are unfamiliar with the award-winning documentary Playing For Change: Peace Through Music there are a few video clips of this little gem available on Youtube. The first one, featuring Stand By Me, has reached over 13 million views to date, making it one of the most viral videos of 2008 and most certainly one of my top videos of all time. Here’s a snippet from the makers:

From the award-winning documentary, “Playing For Change: Peace Through Music”, comes the first of many “songs around the world” being released independently. Featured is a cover of the Ben E. King classic by musicians around the world adding their part to the song as it travelled the globe.

Wasn’t that great? It really does get those warm and fuzzy feelings deep inside one churning doesn’t it? But if you are an unemotional robot who couldn’t give a fig about sunsets or puppies and even struggle to shed a tear for a dying relative, then try giving this one a watch:

Proudly South African video

PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN VIDEO: Your weekly mood-booster

There’s a song I often listen to on my way to work that not only psyches me up for the day ahead, but genuinely makes me feel Proudly South African and reminds me what a great country we live in. I’ve been wanting to create a video around this song for a while now with the aim of instilling patriotic sentiments and warm & fuzzy feelings in the hearts and minds of all South Africans near and far.

My hope is that this video will give new vigor to what it means to be proudly South African, will make foreigners to our shores feel welcome, and will keep all South Africans positive about their country. Enjoy.

Backstreet Boys parody

VIDEO: Backstreet Boys parody – singing Incomplete

THEY say that your varsity years are some of the best years of your life. I couldn’t agree more – provided that you went to a place like Rhodes and weren’t forced by your folks to spend your varsity life in the depths of a cold library trying desperately to complete a law degree within four years and spending your Friday nights in the dingy computer labs with the sounds of joyous, drunken revelry continuing throughout the night in the background…

Those students got a raw deal.

Two years out of varsity and I experienced what my fellow Rhodes scholars call “post-Rhodes depression” – a yearning to go back to the bubble-life and be surrounded by attractive, like-minded youth who accept you if you’re a little weird or different because of a shared understanding that varsity is all about personal growth and discovering who you really are. That, and having a jol!

My fellow Rhodents and I managed to reach celebrity status with our Backstreet Boys parody and wet the pants of many viewers young and old with this video that we made in our final year. It’s a ‘spoof’ video of the Backstreet Boys singing incomplete and is an example of what makes varsity fun, exciting and memorable.

PS: If you don’t at least smile while watching this then I’m afraid your sense of humour is somewhat impaired. It’s possible that you are severely depressed and should consider seeking professional help. Otherwise I trust that our Backstreet Boys parody made you smile.

Storms are brewing…

AFRICAN STORMS: Things are getting pretty violent in the sky

FOR those of you who live in a cave somewhere warm and are part of the progress-hindering crowd that deny that global warming exists, I have some evidence for you people!

If your cave is well sheltered and extends far and deep into a solid mountain, it would do you good to know that the world has been hit by the most devastating storms in the history of humankind.

Old ladies are literally being lifted off their feet with their umbrellas in the windy streets of Cape Town, and old trees are being uprooted left right and center during storms hell-bent on destroying us all.

Well when I was enjoying the percolated taste of a Nescafe cup of coffee with my family, I was informed that one of these fierce storms hit the greater Pietermaritzburg area. It descended on my humble place of work and literally tore off a large portion of roof – the part right above our R40 million printing press nogal!

There have been chaps banging on the roof for the last couple of weeks now trying to repair the storms damage; but peace, dignity and order has finally been restored and the roof is fixed… until the next Armageddon hits. Touch wood.

The great minds at the office remembered the surveillance cameras that witnessed the storms carnage and released this video a couple of days ago. Witness the horror, and believe me when I say that we must protect ourselves from the Global Warming!

Storms are brewing … Don’t blow me away
